Towards industry 4.0 for the laboratory: European support and regional initiatives

The digital transformation is in full swing in many industries and the laboratory is no exception. The European Commission initiative on Digital Innovation Hubs supports this transformation and the recent approval of the DIH-HERO project will shortly create a pole on laboratory automation including new funding for small-scale projects. Regional initiatives such as the BioLAGO health network, as well as structures such as SiLA (Standards in Laboratory Automation) all help to build an effective network locally. This presentation will give an overview of the new opportunities.

Lena Mast, coordinator of the Labor 4.0 project, BioLAGO, Bodensee region, Germany/Austria/Switzerland

Since 2017, Lena Mast works for BioLAGO e.V. as project manager and management referent. Lena studied business administration at the University of Applied Science Konstanz and in her role, she supports the strategic management of the health network BioLAGO and is responsible for the project "Laboratory 4.0 - intelligent digitisation and automation for SMEs at Lake Constance". The project addresses the needs of regional SMEs in the field of laboratory automation and offers knowledge transfer and exchange of experience with regional laboratory companies on automation and digitisation. Medium-sized users in particular need tailor-made and affordable technologies for their economic success. This is where the BioLAGO project comes in, funded by the Interreg Small Projects Fund in the Interreg V programme "Alpenrhein Bodensee-Hochrhein".
